The Killbuck community is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of 44-year-old Ronald E. Pappa, who passed away in a devastating crash on the morning of Wednesday, April 22, 2026. His untimely death has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow as they process the loss of someone taken far too soon.
The crash occurred around 4:44 a.m. on State Route 241, south of County Road 235 in Salt Creek Township, Ohio. According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Ronald was driving a 2000 Ford Excursion when he attempted to pass a tour bus in a no-passing zone near a hillcrest. As he re-entered his lane, he lost control of his vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with a 2007 Ram pickup truck. The impact sent both vehicles off the road into a yard.
Despite wearing his seatbelt, Ronald was severely injured. Emergency responders rushed him to Pomerene Hospital, but he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver of the pickup, Kevin A. Nussbaum, 30, of Apple Creek, was unharmed.
The crash closed the roadway for nearly two hours as authorities investigated the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.
