The Richmond community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 18-year-old Zion Terry, who was tragically killed in a domestic-related shooting early Tuesday morning, April 21, 2026, in the 3100 block of 5th Avenue.
Richmond Police responded to the scene around 9:50 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers found Terry suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to provide medical assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other victims, a 38-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl, were also found in the home. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The adult woman’s injuries are now considered non-life-threatening, though the juvenile remains in critical condition.
Authorities quickly identified 41-year-old Levy Nelson as the suspect. Following a coordinated search, Nelson was apprehended in Henrico County, where he was arrested after colliding with several vehicles, including police units. A Henrico officer was injured during the incident. Nelson has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
