A violent mass shooting at Leinbach Park on Monday morning has left two teenagers dead and several others injured, in an incident police say escalated from a planned fight into a deadly exchange of gunfire. The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to a report of a fight at approximately 9:52 a.m., and while officers were en route, calls came in about shots being fired and multiple victims. Investigators believe the violence stemmed from a pre-arranged confrontation involving juveniles, which quickly escalated into a deadly shootout.
Upon arrival, officers found 17-year-old Erubey Romero Medina in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, 16-year-old Daniel Jimenez Millian, was located deeper inside the park with gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, he too was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several other victims were found nearby on Robinhood Road, with gunshot wounds ranging from critical to minor. The injured included a 14-year-old female, a 15-year-old female, a 17-year-old female, an 18-year-old male, and a 19-year-old female. A total of seven people were struck by gunfire, and detectives are working to determine each individual’s role in the exchange.
The names of the juvenile victims have not been released due to North Carolina law, and the names of adult victims remain withheld as the investigation continues. Police describe the investigation as active, and officials urge the public to refrain from sharing unverified information.
