The community of Deville is in mourning following the tragic death of 45-year-old Gregory S. Kile, who lost his life in a devastating boating accident on the Red River, leaving family and friends heartbroken.
According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), the incident occurred on April 18, 2026, in Rapides Parish near the Buhlow Recreational Landing. Authorities reported that three boaters launched onto the river around 9 p.m., but their vessel struck a rock jetty shortly after entering the water. The force of the impact caused the boat to capsize and sink, throwing all three occupants into the river.
Two of the boaters managed to swim to safety and call for help, but Gregory S. Kile was unable to make it out of the water. Despite a coordinated search effort involving multiple agencies, his body was recovered from the river on April 20 at approximately 8 a.m.
None of the individuals aboard the vessel were wearing personal flotation devices at the time of the crash, a detail that remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances of the tragedy.
The search involved the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Pineville Fire Department, Alexandria Fire Department, and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, all of whom worked tirelessly to recover Kile’s body.
