A quiet stretch of Highway 402 was transformed into a scene of heartbreak just before sunrise on April16, when 23-year-old Logan Zeigler of Loveland lost his life in a violent crash that has left the community shaken.
The collision occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 402 and County Road 7. Zeigler was riding his Suzuki GSX motorcycle eastbound when the tragedy unfolded. At the same time, a 47-year-old woman from Greeley was driving a GMC Acadia westbound on the highway. As she attempted to make a left turn onto County Road 7, her SUV moved directly into the path of Zeigler’s oncoming motorcycle.
The impact was immediate and devastating. Zeigler was thrown from his bike, and despite rapid response from officers and emergency crews, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The loss has left family, friends, and the community struggling to comprehend the suddenness of the tragedy, mourning a life that ended far too soon.
The driver of the SUV survived but sustained injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, though authorities have not disclosed the extent of her injuries. There are no indications that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Investigators believe speed may have been a contributing factor, though they are still working to piece together the full details of the collision. In light of the crash’s severity, the department’s specialized crash team was called in to reconstruct the events. The intersection remained closed for about three hours as crews documented the scene and cleared the wreckage.
As the investigation continues, officials are urging drivers to stay vigilant, particularly at busy intersections, where a single miscalculation can lead to tragic consequences. Behind the facts and figures of the crash is a young man whose life was abruptly cut short, leaving a community to mourn his loss and reflect on the fragile nature of life.
