It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of 12-year-old Marissa Marie Carstensen of Elkhorn, who left us on April 7, 2026. Her untimely death has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the entire community. Marissa’s life, though far too short, was filled with love, warmth, and kindness, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Marissa was known for her radiant smile, her gentle and caring spirit, and her ability to make everyone feel included and valued. She had a heart of gold and was a shining light in the lives of her family and friends. Whether she was sharing special moments with her sisters, playing with her cherished dog Teddy, or spending time with friends, Marissa’s natural sweetness left an unforgettable mark on those around her.

She is preceded in death by her father, Kevin Carstensen; her grandfather, Roger Britten; her grandparents, Deb and Steve Uarich; and her beloved aunt, Bootsie. Although they are no longer with her, their memory remains a vital part of Marissa’s legacy, and she is now reunited with them in peace.

Marissa is survived by her loving mother, Jenna (Dane) Uarich; her sisters, Leah Carstensen and Berkly Uarich; and her grandparents, Jim and Joan Carstensen of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Pam Britten of Elkhorn. She is also survived by her uncles, Brian (Amanda) Britten and their children, Abigail and Allison; Chad (Lisa) Carstensen and their children, Emily, Henry, and Myles; and Craig (Becca) Carstensen and their children, Breckyn, Casen, and Kyler. Additionally, Marissa leaves behind her special friends Lily, Annabelle, Kinley, and Elise, along with her constant companion, Teddy.

Marissa’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18th, at Relevant Center. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, giving friends and family an opportunity to gather in remembrance and support. Inurnment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

In honor of Marissa’s memory, the family kindly requests that attendees wear a shade of blue, a color that reflects her spirit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for later designation.

Though Marissa’s time with us was brief, her impact was immeasurable. She will be forever remembered for her joyful heart, her kindness, and the love she shared with all. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
