A tragic motorcycle accident on April 19, 2026, has claimed the life of 19-year-old Ryan Hayes of Chillicothe. The crash occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. at the intersection of US 50 and Veterans Parkway in Scioto Township, Ross County. Hayes, a recent high school graduate with a passion for motorcycles, was critically injured after his 2001 Honda VT750 collided with a 2022 Hyundai Palisade driven by 79-year-old Lois Jones of Portsmouth. Despite immediate medical attention, Hayes was pronounced dead at Adena Regional Medical Center shortly after the crash.

The incident unfolded when Jones, traveling eastbound on US 50, attempted a left turn at the intersection to head north onto Veterans Parkway. Hayes was riding his motorcycle westbound when the two vehicles collided. The impact of the crash sent Hayes’s motorcycle off the roadway, where it came to rest in a grassy area. Jones, who was uninjured, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

A well-liked young man, Ryan Hayes was known for his friendly smile, hard-working nature, and love of motorcycles. He had recently graduated high school and was working toward a career in the trades. Friends and family have paid tribute to Hayes, remembering his warmth, generosity, and his dedication to his passions. A candlelight vigil and memorial ride are being planned in his honor.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident. No charges have been filed at this time, though the investigation remains active. Community members are urged to come forward with any information that could help shed light on the cause of this tragic crash.
