PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio — A devastating incident occurred Monday afternoon at Valley Forge High School when a female student died after shooting herself in the school cafeteria. Parma City Schools confirmed the tragedy, which unfolded shortly after 2:10 p.m.
Parma Police Public Information Officer Scott Traxler reported that the situation involved a single gunshot and only one student, stressing that there was no active threat to others. Emergency responders, including police and fire crews, rushed to the campus on Independence Boulevard and quickly secured the building.
As part of established safety protocols, students were evacuated and transported to the designated reunification site at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C). The injured student was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died. Officials emphasized that the situation is contained and that no ongoing danger exists for students or staff.
In the aftermath, Parma Schools announced that Valley Forge High School and Normandy High School will remain closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Parma Heights police are leading the investigation, while district officials expressed condolences to the community and assured families that safety measures were followed promptly.
