A tragic rollover crash on a rural road in Kelso has claimed the life of an 18-year-old high school senior and left three other teenagers injured, in an incident that has deeply shaken the local community.

According to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Saturday to reports of a single-vehicle crash on a private rural roadway. Upon arrival, first responders encountered a chaotic scene, discovering an overturned SUV resting on its side with one occupant trapped beneath it.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Ethan Ragsdale, a senior at Mark Morris High School. Authorities confirmed that Ragsdale was pinned under the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Three other teenage passengers were also involved in the rollover. Officials stated they were transported to a hospital by private vehicle for treatment. Their current conditions have not been publicly disclosed.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 19-year-old Jacob Manecke Jr., remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Deputies indicated that alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Upon completion of the investigation, findings will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for consideration of possible charges.

Authorities confirmed that Ragsdale’s family was notified at the scene, marking the beginning of a profound loss for loved ones and the school community. The tragedy has left classmates, friends, and residents grappling with grief over a young life cut short.
